India’s premier management school, IIM Calcutta to offer financial blockchain program from May 2019

Countries around the world have taken steps towards the adoption of cryptocurrency. India is one among them, following the four-week deadline presented by the Supreme Court to the Union Government to formulate a policy decision on cryptocurrencies.

In recent news, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta [IIM Calcutta], one of the country’s top-ranking business schools, is considering a new cryptocurrency-related educational program in May 2019, reported Bitcoin news. The Advanced Programme in Fintech and Financial Blockchain [APFFB] is meant to discuss the talent shortage faced by India’s financial technology industry.

This program is being developed for middle and senior management professionals in organizations that need to develop a digital finance strategy. Prof. Indranil Bose, the Program’s Director, stated:

“A vast majority of firms in the banking and financial sector believe that the lack of adequate FinTech talent is an existential threat to their future. Our FinTech programme, designed with today’s management and finance professionals in mind, will leverage the deep research and consulting expertise of IIM Calcutta faculty and our state-of-art Finance Lab. We plan to equip and enable 2000 Fintech professionals in the next few years.”

According to reports, it will be a six-month-long program and will cost students about Rs.3,20,000 or $4,500. The course will include classes on Data analysis and interpretation, Financial Markets and Products, Understanding Banks and other Financial Institutions, Foundations of Fintech, Digital Payments, All About Blockchain, Digital Disruptions in Financial Services, Crypto Assets and Tokens, Risk Management for Fintech and Data-Driven Financial Analytics.

Academic and educational institutions educating people about cryptocurrency and blockchain-related technologies is not a new development. 2019 has already seen Shanghai’s Fudan University and the University of California, Berkeley added to the list of universities imparting crypto-education.
